Maxi-MAUL Program Developer
Chief Instructor Wendi Bacon
Wendi Bacon is a 3rd Dan Black-belt in both WTF and ITF Tae-Kwon-Do. As a kid, she trained in ITF Tae-Kwon-Do with her father, 4th Dan Duane Bacon. He created a free Tae-Kwon-Do program for under-privileged youths at the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrenceville, Georgia. After training there, Wendi continued the legacy by creating and, for four years, running a free Tae-Kwon-Do program at the Geneva Boys & Girls Club in New York. There she also met and trained under 7th Dan Master Tina Felice in WTF & ITF Tae-Kwon-Do, eventually assisting with classes and grading in the WTF style. She eventually moved to Cambridge, UK to pursue a PhD and, ultimately, to found MAUL. In 2016 she tore her ACL training in Jiu Jitsu, and after knee reconstructive surgery returned to martial arts to earn her 3rd Dan black-belt in 2017 with Master Tina.
MiNi-MAUL Program Developer
Instructor Layla Vandenbergh
Layla Vandenbergh became involved in MAUL as a New Year’s activity in January of 2014. She quickly became addicted – attending every class, assisting in organizing extra training sessions and teaching her fellow MAULers how to run. Between daily training sessions in her kitchen and her initial role as Publicity Ninja for the club, Layla eventually became Instructor Wendi’s go-to for all things MAUL. Combining her newfound love of martial arts with her passion for teaching and helping children, Layla created the MiNi-MAUL branch for children and families – her children and husband amongst the first generation of those students! Outside of MAUL, Layla works for the Cambridge Family Mediation Service. A true Renaissance woman, she is a musician, craftswoman, baking guru, and avid runner. She is currently a probationary blackbelt.

4th Dan Instructor Duane Bacon
Duane Bacon is Wendi’s first martial arts instructor, having developed a Tae-Kwon-Do program for underprivileged youths at a Boys & Girls Club in Lawrenceville, Georgia. He has trained in varying degrees in Tang Soo Do, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Grappling, Aikido, Taijutsu, Iaido, and ultimately a variety of mixed martial arts styles, but his core art has always been Tae-Kwon-Do. His brothers and indeed even his mother trained alongside him and nearly his entire family hold blackbelts in Tae-Kwon-Do. After a decade without training due to job responsibilities and moving to various states, Instructor Duane came back to his training after assisting Instructor Wendi with her New York-based club and he eventually went on to receive his 4th Dan under Master Tina Felice.
